I'm wrestling with the hypothesis that Republican tenets are based in hate and greed. Their vehement response to undocumented aliens includes the hatred of brown foreigners combined with the panic that they are taking away from white Americans. The vehement obsession with bathrooms for trans people is an extension of the hatred of people who are not like them. I worked with many professionals whose only interest in government was to reduce the taxes on their bonuses. I think of them as "I got mine" Republicans. There is a pattern with the disappointed MAGA voters that they lost their job or their benefits with not even a mention of others who are also affected. One MAGA voter complained that #47 "isn't hutting the people he needs to hurt". By extension, I think hatred and greed spring from insecurity which might be the root of all evil. Hatred is based partly on fear consistent with insecurity. Greed supports status for those who think that their wealth defines them. Am I off?
We need to stop calling Trump followers Republicans. The "party" loyalists are now better described as Trumplicans. The Trumplicans are the true RINOs. A new name for Trump sycophants and followers would properly distance them from the GOP legacy and help all Americans better understand what has happened to the Republican Party. Nothing has happened to the Republican Party. A new party has been born. Trumplicans. And no doubt Trump would be pleased. Let's give him a win. Let's give his followers a pure label. Let's be honest, they are not Republicans.
I appreciate this. No matter where we are on the political spectrum, those of us who love democracy, freedom, and the responsibilities that go with it need to band together to defeat MAGA. Happy Friday everyone.
