I have been vacillating as to whether to email the managing partner of the Skadden Arps law firm to rebuke him and his firm for paying protection money in the form of an exorbitant number pro-bono hours to a President who is running an extortion racket. The partner's email address was still publicly available the last time I checked. I would be speaking not just as a fellow American but as a former member of the bar.
Fear of the possible consequences is preventing me from doing so.

One purpose that should very much concern all of us is the use of DMF(death master files) which are meant to affect immigrants but other citizens as well whose social security numbers can be deleted so that the affected can no longer function financially in the country(being wrongfully identified as dead leads to benefit termination causing financial hardship and distress)
Think for a moment about being financially dead You can't access your bank accounts, credit cards, pay your mortgage, collect social security These files are potentially being created as I write this to be used for all kinds of twisted corrupt reasons but the most important is killing voters ability to cast votes in 2026
Contact your state AG and tell them of this concern This activity must be guarded against
Yeah I agree with this sentiment. People like Murkowski need to learn history and figure out that acting with cowardice doesn't make you safer. It just means the danger later on will be that much greater and that much more difficult to stop.
Movements like the Trump/MAGA thing, its historical antecedents, view suspiciously anyone who wasn't there from the start (the "Old Fighters"), and often those people are the first ones sent to the gulag.
Rep. Becca Balint is fabulous. I liked how she said, "If this scrappy little dyke can do it any one can." She is funny, charming and courageous. Working to save others saves us all. Thanks, Lisa for all you do. Discussions like this are helpful in ways to "fight", but also it cheered me up. Take care.
Not only must "we" educate others who don't believe Democracy works for them, we have to learn from them how they were drawn to this conclusion. If it turns out to be racism, sexism, fear stoked by their churches, ancient hatreds that have no basis in logic (Anti-Semitism), then we must ask them what they see as a way to change their environment. I hope I'm explaining what my point is, not sure I'm getting there.
And this does not only apply to Democrats, it applies to the universities who could UNITE and protect each other against the infringement of their autonomy and free speech rights, it applies to the law firms that are now realizing that authoritarians don't just ask once and so they can UNITE and protect each other from usurpation and destruction of their credibility and the rule of law, it applies to the media that can UNITE behind the AP and other threats to their free and honest expression of the harms being perpetrated on America by a lawless regime. UNITE! Show up! And we will send this regime packing.
The administration is now saying its unconstitutional and unlawful April 11 demand letter to Harvard was sent in error. The White House and, in my opinion, the New York Times' reporting, are framing this as if Harvard is in the wrong for having responded the way it did when it received the letter.
It's not only incompetence, it's dedicated, disciplined incompetence. The MAGAGOP have no bottom, no line they won't cross. Their mission statement clearly is "how can we make things worse as fast as possible and try harder to speed up that process?" Thank you, Rep. Balint, for your courage and bravery. Leading by example and showing the way out of this mess.
I call for all of the Democrats who are NOT actively fighting and resisting trump administration to be voted out. There are many other Democrats who are like Senator Sanders, Senator Booker, Representative Becca Balint, Rep AOC, Rep Crockett, and a very few others who would do a much much better job..
AOC and Bernie are the Democratic Party's express tickets to the margins of American politics. Sure, they have the fire in the belly that the pantywaists in the Dem's leadership and strategist class lack, but for most Americans - including the ones we need if we are to recapture Congress - they're woke ballot-box poison.
